General

If a situation arises which has a legal aspect to it and you are not sure whether to go to a solicitor, you can go to the Citizens Advice Bureau, who will be able to either help you directly or point you in the right direction.

Legal arrangements for managing financial affairs

You may be the relative or friend of someone who is unable to collect their benefits or visit the bank or post office, or you may need to take over the management of someone's financial matters if they have become too confused to manage their property and affairs.

For information about the different arrangements possible see, Citizens Advice Bureau, MENCAP, Alzheimer's Care, Age Concern or Help the Aged Fact sheets.

NB:  It is advisable to seek legal advice before signing any documents.
