Hospital services for older people

           These are provided on both hospital sites below. Both hospitals have wards for older people covered by consultative geriatricians (doctors who specialize in the treatment of older people).  Doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and dieticians visit the wards regularly.  For more details of these services contact your doctor

Benefits and going into hospital

If you are receiving benefits and have a short-term stay in hospital or residential care, it may affect your benefits.  If you want to find out about this contact Welfare Rights, the     Citizens Advice Bureau or the Benefits Agency.

 

Leaving Hospital – Continuing Care

Someone who has long term or continuing health care needs should have their needs assessed before they are discharged from hospital. If any services are needed to help you manage at home, these should be arranged before you are discharged from hospital. A booklet called, Continuing Care and You is available from hospitals, GPs or from the PALS. See Community Care or  Social Services for more information about how an assessment is carried out.

  

Hospital Chaplains

Hospital Chaplains can provide pastoral and spiritual care for patients and relatives of hospital patients.  Ward Staff will be able to tell you how to contact a Chaplain.  Alternatively, a list of hospital chaplains for different faiths and denominations is available from:
