Lonsdale District Carers

A group of carers whose aim is to promote better local services for carers. The group produce a newsletter, arrange regular carers days and events/trips to give carers a well earned break from caring. Help with respite care may be available to allow carers to take part in these activities.

The group operates a Carers Centre which is open for carers to drop in for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee with other carers. There are volunteers (most of whom are or have been carers) who can lend an understanding, listening ear and provide information about local services and help available for both the carer and the person being cared for.

British Red Cross Carers Emergency Card

The emergency card is for anyone who looks after adults or children who are dependant on them because of illness or disability.

A carer registers by completing an enrolment form which holds information about the carer, the person they care for and the action that needs to be taken in the event of an emergency.

Carers Forum

Meetings of the forum are open to all carers and provide an opportunity for carers to raise issues which are of concern to them. Further information about the forum and details of its next meeting can be obtained from the Lonsdale District Carers.

The Carers UK is the national organisation which offers information and advice to carers; organises conferences and events; publishes a carers’ newsletter; and lobbies Government on behalf of carers. Membership costs £10 and details are available from Carers UK:
