 Benefits for Carers

If you look after an adult or child who is sick or disabled, you may be able to claim the following benefits:

·            Invalid Care Allowance

·            Carers Allowance

·            National Insurance Credits

·            Help with the cost of Respite Care

·        Money off your Council Tax

A leaflet on these benefits called Carers: Benefits for You is available from the Carers Centre or the local Welfare Rights Service at the following address. You do not need a stamp.

Welfare Rights, the Benefits Agency or Citizens Advice Bureau can all provide advice on benefits you and the person you care for may be entitled to.  If in doubt, ask for a full benefit check.

The Citizens Advice Bureau and Welfare Rights services can also help with completing forms or making an appeal against a Benefits Agency decision.
