  Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s Society offers information on all aspects of dementia. The Society are also able to provide practical and emotional support for carers of people with dementia.  They also run two services:

Relief Care Service

Experienced relief carers can take over the care of the person with dementia at home for a few hours so that the carer has some time to go shopping, meet friends, do some gardening, or have a well-earned rest.

St Martin’s Day Centre

St Martin’s Church on Westgate in Morecambe is normally open between 13.30 -16:00 every Thursday afternoon.  The Centre gives people with dementia companionship and stimulation through a number of activities. It also means that carers can have a break for a few hours.  Transport can be provided if you need it.

Wandering

If the person you care for is inclined to wander, let your neighbor, local shopkeepers and local police know.  Ensure the person has their name, address and contact telephone numbers in their pocket.  The Alzheimer's Society have useful booklets on this matter.
