Transport Schemes

As well as the information under Buses, and Trains, there are several transport schemes that may be of help. Mileage rates are charged, which may include the driver’s journey from home. Ask for details when booking.

Lune Valley Transport Enterprises

Lune Valley Transport Enterprises operate two schemes:

Dial-A-Bus

This is a wheelchair accessible service which operates between Morecambe, Heysham and Lancaster, Monday-Friday, 08:30 -17:30.  If you wish to use this service, 24 hour’s notice is required.  One week's notice is needed if you want to use the bus to attend a medical appointment.

County Cars

This is a social car service for rural residents, both young and old, to enable them to make essential journeys when public transport is not available.

NHS Transport to Clinics or Hospital Appointments

You are entitled to NHS transport if your GP or consultant has authorized the booking. When they do this they will give you a reference number for you to quote when you telephone the Community Patient Contact Centre (01539 716998) on Monday- Friday 8am to 8pm. If you do not have a medical need for hospital transport but are on a low income, you may be entitled to help with travel costs. Ask at your Benefits Office or enquire at the hospital’s general office.
