Driving Licences

Renewing Your Licence At 70

After the age of 70, your licence will usually be valid for three years and an application for renewal will have to be made.

Paper Licences Holders  

You will automatically be sent D46 and D750 forms 90 days before your 70th birthday. You must complete these application forms and return them with your paper licence, together with the appropriate fee. Send your completed application and fee to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AA or you may be able to use the Post Office Checking Service.

Photo card Licences Holders 

You will automatically be sent a D46 form 90 days before your 70th birthday and every three years thereafter. You must complete application form D46 and return it with your photo card driving licence and paper counterpart together with the appropriate fee. Send your completed application and fee to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AA.

Note: Photo card Licences Holders - If your name has changed since your last licence was issued you must complete application form D46 and photo card application form D750 (available from most post offices), and enclose both your photo card driving licence and paper counterpart together with the appropriate fee. You must also enclose original documentation confirming your change of name. There is no requirement to supply a new photograph.
